The Boat Race was an incredible experience. It was a cold day (some snow flakes even fell) but even so thousands of people lined the Thames to witness the history, tradition and incredible effort of this epic race.
I was able to watch the finish, which meant I saw the race on the Television but was able to be there to welcome the crew back and see the medal presentations etc. It was so wonderful to see the joy on the faces of both the Blue Boat and Isis who both had incredible races.
I hope the following pictures give you a little taste of what it was like. The rest of the evening was a lot of fun as well – although a glass or two of Bollingers made it all a little fuzzy. All in all it was a triumphant year for Oxford, with a clean sweep of all categories (Men’s & Women’s Blue and Reserve boats, and both Lightweight Blue crews as well). It has been great to see the way these crews have come together, overcome the challenges of 2012 and put in outstanding performances. These are incredible athletes, students and people – and I’m happy to have been a part of this experience. Congratulations one and all!
